God bless you for this recipe! My grandpa always made Swedish Meatballs for New Years Day, and my grandparents moved to Texas to live with my mom last summer, and we aren’t going to be able to be with them. And I wanted to make them for the kids, but didn’t have a good recipe! AND I’m also getting ready to go Keto, and this recipe is Keto-friendly; double-win! 🙂
Yay! That sounds like such a special family tradition, Crystal.
Do you use fully cooked frozen meatballs or uncooked? Would either work for this recipe? Thanks!
I use cooked meatballs, but I’ve cooked raw meatballs in my crockpot before with other recipes.
So the recipe says frozen meatballs. Do you cook the meatballs and then freeze them with the other ingredients? Or do you put the frozen meatballs in with the other ingredients and freeze it all together? Please advise.
I add them to the bag frozen.
What do you recommend serving with these?
Nevermind… I didn’t see it at the top. (Insert face palm)
I’m going to put mine over egg noodles
These were amazing ! Seasoning is perfect.
Love this!
Yay!
Is there a recipe to make your own meatballs verses buying a bag of frozen meatballs that have preservatives in them? I know it’s more time consuming but prefer to skip preservatives as much as possible.
Absolutely! I understand. I would recommend these: https://members.newleafwellness.biz/recipe/italian-meatballs/
Also, they might not work for this recipe, but these stuffed turkey meatballs are amazing: https://members.newleafwellness.biz/recipe/mozzarella-stuffed-turkey-pesto-meatballs/
I am confused. Husband is on Leto diet and all frozen meatballs I find have a grain in them. What keto meatballs did you use?
I was going to say the same- diabetics and Keto don’t allow. Or stay away from grains!!
below there are two questions on meat ball frozen do you have an answer to what type for keto
First recipe I tried since becoming a Member. The family absolutely loved it! Excited to explore and find more family favorites.
So I just became a member and this was my first meal. I didn’t have time to pre-freeze but I had all the ingredients (including frozen meatballs) and threw it all in the crockpot today. I ended up putting the meatballs on a bed of linguine noodles and green beans and corn on the side. My family were a little hesitant and I have some picky eaters – but omg we all loved it!! It was a total hit, they asked if I could make it again. You bet cha! I can’t wait to actually prepare the other meals and try them.
Did you cook less time or the 4 hrs on low in crockpot? I’m thinking of doing the same.
I’m confused. Do we shorten the cooking times in the crockpot if we don’t prefreeze but the meatballs are the frozen ones? Also can it be made in instant pot? If so how do I cook it?
I was also wondering about cook time for the instant pot.
Any ideas for doing this one on the stove top or oven? My family loves this one so much!
Love this recipe! It was one of the first ones I tried. the first time I rushed the cooking… set the crock pot on high. There is a reason it says cook on low… my cream broke. It still tasted good. The next time I did it as instructed… AMAZING!!!
Thank you Kelly, great recipes, great instructions.
The same thing happened to me. Looked very oily and then I realized the cream separated. Cook on LOW!!
So, the heavy cream is added before freezing?
First recipe I tried and it was a huge hit with my family. Youngest and daughter-in- law asked for the recipe. Gonna love this site!
My husband’s tummy doesn’t tolerate garlic – would onion powder be ok?
A word of advice: get it out of the crockpot as soon as it’s done. I was out when it finished so it went into “warm” mode and turned absolutely vile. I tasted it before I left (it was almost done) and it tasted great so the fault was mine. Just avoid my mistake and turn off the crockpot!
This turned out fabulous! I thawed it and cooked in the IP for 5 minutes. Cooked the noodles separately. It was really good. However, my sister did it in the crockpot and it was a mess. The cream broke and it was inedible. Don’t know what she did wrong, but it looked nasty. If she tries it again, it will be in the IP.
Is there a way to filter for Keto and dairy free meals? Or is there a space where you have dairy alternatives for the meal?
I’m trying to add recipes to my cart. I click on them and they get greyed out but it doesn’t go ro my cart. Is there a trick?
When recipes say 6 servings.. Does that mean this feeds 6 people but this is all going into one freezer bag?
This was my first freezer meal. I hate to say this, but it was disgusting…we couldn’t eat it. I doubt if I will try it again.
How would I translate to stove top?
Yummy!! We loved this recipe so much! I made raw meatballs and froze a week or so before trying this recipe. Thawed meatballs in refrig. Then, cooked meatballs in a skillet to brown while making mashed potatoes. Returned to meatballs and added the rest of the ingredients to skillet. I did add a bit more pepper. I love that all your recipes leave leftovers even for a family of 5 hungry eaters. Winner recipe!
This was my first meal, and I did it in the instant pot. There wasn’t enough liquid in the bottom so I got the “food burn” message and the meatballs burned and stuck to the bottom. It was still edible and it tasted delicious, but the sauce was very runny. I added some frozen steamed broccoli and served it over rice. My kids loved it but I would definitely do a few things differently next time. Perhaps fully thawing the bag before adding it to the instant pot?
I do think that this could be cooked on the stovetop in a covered sauce pan on simmer as well. The taste was great!
Where can I find the Label to put on the freezer bag with name of the recipe, cooking instruction and “use-by” date?
I didn’t see the instructions for this recipe. Do you add the cream when you are preparing the freezer bag? If so, doesn’t the cream separate? Can someone point me to the step-by-step instructions. TY
Wow! Made this tonight and it was beyond amazing. I used the Costco frozen meatballs and 8 oz of shredded cheese. 😋
Delicious! Used Kirkland frozen meatballs and cooked in the instant pot.
Can half and half be substituted for the heavy cream?
Lower fat content is more likely to curdle or separate. It won’t change the flavor but it may look grainy.
